[ ゼーガー＆エバンス ] Zager And Evans
デニー・ゼーガー [ Denny Zager ] １９４３年２月１８日アメリカ・ネブラスカ州 ワイモア ( Wymore) 生まれ。
リック・エバンス [ Rick Evans] １９４３年１月２０日 アメリカ・ネブラスカ州 リンカーン ( Lincoln ) 生まれ。
１９６４年ネブラスカ･ウエスレアン大学生時代に、同州リンカーンでポップデュオとして結成されました。
「 西暦２５２５年 」 はリック・エバンスが６４年頃すでに作詞･作曲していた曲でした。
当時若い人向けの音楽に力を入れていたＲＣＡは、ネブラスカやオクラホマのマイナーレーベルで話題の曲を見つけました。
その曲とアーティストがこの「 西暦２５２５年 」 のゼーガーとエバンズでした。
１９６９年彼等はメジャーデビューを果たします。
同年の７月から８月まで ビルボード第１位を獲得。
当時、社会派の曲が商業ベースで発売されヒットした時代であり、
又ベトナム戦争など争い事に人々が疲れ、心の安らぎを求めた時代でもありました。
これらを背景にした６０年代末らしいヒット曲と云えるでしょう。
２５２５年から１００００年までの地球を悲観的に歌った哀しい内容の歌です。
この曲は大ヒットしましたが、あまりにもスケールの大きい内容の歌詞であったため、
次の曲に悩みヒットが出ず、大ヒットしすぎた故の１発屋で終わってしましまいました。
でもきっと後世に残る名曲と言えます。 是非聴いて、そして歌詞を見て頂きたいものだと思います。
解散後も二人は引き続き音楽の世界で活動中だと聞いています。
