[ アルマ・コーガン ] Alma Cogan
１９３２年５月１９日 イギリス・ロンドン生まれ。
１０代入った頃から音楽に興味を持ち始め、１９５３年 「 Over And Over Again 」 でようやくデビューを果たします。
１９５４年 「 BELL BOTTOM BLUES 」 が全英４位のヒットとなり、
以来６０年代まで２０曲近いヒットを放ち続け、全英ヒットチャートの常連となりました。
初期にはジャズっぽい曲が多かったのですが、６０年代に入ると明るく楽しいポップス路線が主となったようです。
アルマ・コーガンが日本で人気になったのは 「 恋の汽車ポッポ 」 と 「 ポケット・トランジスター 」 の２曲ですが、
それにより日本では一発屋的なイメージを持たれてしまっています。
６０年代のイギリスのミュージック界は、ビートルズの登場迄はアメリカ勢にまったく歯が立たず、
そんな中で頑張っていたのがクリフ・リチャードとアルマ・コーガンだったと言われています。
目鼻だちくっきりとした、美貌と云われる容姿のアルマ・コーガンですが、
１９６６年１０月２６日に癌により僅か３４才の若さで急逝してしまいます。
「 恋の汽車ポッポ 」 はポール・アンカが作詞・作曲を手掛けました。
この歌はポール・アンカが当時恋人との噂の [ アネット ] に提供した歌だったのですが、
アルマ・コーガンの方が大ヒットしたものです。 １９６２年には来日もしています。
当時ラジオは家の中で聞くものでした。
トランジスターラジオが出現して、それを外に持って出る事が可能となりました。
つまり何時でも何処でもヒットパレードが流れてきたのです。
トランジスターラジオが若者の必需品となり、
[ 若者 ＝ 音楽 ＝ トランジスターラジオ ] の方程式が成り立った時代でもありました。
